About FUEL

Our Mission

In Newton, food insecurity affects around 15% of the families. In addition, oftentimes, pantry offerings do not align the cultural preferences or diets of those that they serve, many of whom are from immigrant backgrounds. FUEL offers weekly snack bags for elementary schoolers to not feel left out at snack and for high schoolers to not feel hungry during their long days at school. FUEL is also working on providing holiday meal bags for students over the extra long winter break this year, including a few specialty cultural options as well such as empanadas.

FUEL in Action

Winter Break Bags

With the help of the Church of Redeemers, the Centre Street Pantry, and Newton's social workers, we put together and delivered 40 holiday meal bags to families in need in Newton. The holiday meal bags consisted of cooking oil, shelf stable milk, rice, beans, cereal, fresh fruits, shelf stable yogurt, bread, and snacks.

Holiday Meal Bags

We rescued 70 unsold bagels from Rosenfeld's Bagels and distributed them to students in need at Newton North to enjoy over February break.
